Cashmere is the ultimate material for scarfing; luxuriously soft, yet warm and durable enough to be practical, it's the ideal companion for when the mercury begins to drop. Developed by Beggs & Co in the 1970s, this cashmere Arran scarf is expertly woven by their Scottish-based team, and finished using hand-harvested Italian teasels, which are gently brushed across the surface to create the iconic ripple effect. This superbly soft scarf features a dense weave that provides excellent thermal benefits.

Although originating in Persia and India, the Paisley pattern as we know it acquired its name from the Scottish town of Paisley, where a progressive community of weavers spent the Victorian era producing the newly-popular Paisley Shawl featuring the teardrop pattern. Weaving experts Begg & Co, established in 1866 by Alex Begg, created some of the earliest surviving Paisley shawls with a team of trusted local weavers. Growing from there, the company relocated in 1902 to Ayr, Scotland, where the extra space allowed them to develop new cutting-edge weaving techniques for their wonderfully soft scarves, wraps and stoles. Today, Begg & Co use their extensive background in the craft of weaving as a firm foundation for their in-house trained team of experts to continue developing new products and techniques. The secrets to the brand’s exquisite scarves lie in the distinct combination of modern and traditional production processes, from using a trusted pummelling device which has been in the company for seventy years, to computerised equipment, to the mineral-rich waters of Scotland when brushing the cloth.
