Dark and Light Brown B3 Shearling Jacket$ 4,635
- Product Notes
The B3 jacket was originally designed to keep pilots warm, but the sheepskin it was fashioned from wasn't waterproof. In the 1940s, Chapal innovated a clear varnish to remedy this, applying a slightly glossy coat to the exterior of the garment so it was both warm and water tight. This shearling jacket exemplifies that original design nous, fashioned from a mix of light and brown leather with the golden sheepskin showing on the collar, cuffs and hem. All the features of a classic B3 are present, too, with waist adjustment tabs and neck straps to further insulate, as well as a discreet front horizontal pocket.

Although there are plenty of brands that create flight jackets, there are arguably none more qualified to do so than Chapal. Founded in France in 1832 as a tannery, the house was instrumental in advancing fabric technology in the area of aviation, including developing methods to waterproof shearling. As a result, the house was commissioned to create jackets for the French airforce during WWI and the Army Air Corp in 1922 – styles so sophisticated that they’re still worn and replicated today. Although now creating a wider range of leather goods, which are still treated at its own tannery, Chapal's flight jackets remain an embodiment of the house's pioneering history and exceptional craftmanship.
