Karl Lagerfeld once commented that he could recognise the shoulder of a Cifonelli jacket from 100 metres away, so distinctive and respected is the brand's silhouette in the world of tailoring. Aside from its signature armhole, the company is also revered for balancing form with function: although the Cifonelli chest is lean, freedom of movement isn't compromised; the statement lapel of a double-breasted coat is attached separately so it can still closely follow the contour of the body. Like many of its esteemed menswear counterparts, the house has been kept in the family - Giuseppe Cifonelli created the company name in 1880, son Arturo took the atelier to Paris in 1936, Adriano kept it alive from 1972 and in 1994, great-grandsons Massimo and Lorenzo gripped the reins and grew the brand into what it is today. As well as still offering bespoke, Cifonelli has expanded its offering to include selected ready-to-wear pieces, including jackets, trousers, footwear and accessories, while still maintaining the exceptional values and craft of the family name.
