The Story

The ‘Brighton’ loafer is Corthay’s first and best known tassel loafer design. A chic homage to the loafer’s modish origins with a sweeping chiseled toe, sleek profile and exquisite handmade two-tone blue tassels, this is a particularly decadent take on louche summer footwear.

The chosen suede is lightweight, malleable and breathable, perfect for summer and is complimented by the house’s remarkable Goodyear welted technical rubber sole, which performs as a traditional leather Goodyear welt should, but is considerably more lightweight, flexible and functional – enhancing the comfort of the shoe.

The patinaed finish is a true testimony to the skill of Corthay’s craftsman – each shoe is delicately hand painted using subtle layer upon layer of ‘dry-brushing’ – whereby the thinnest veneer of paint is delicately brushed across the surface of the shoe, building up layers stroke by stroke across the shoe in a painstaking process and with no margin for error.

Starting with a strong shade of cobalt around the toe, the patina progresses along the length of the shoe into a deep, voluptuous Chagall blue - the colours of which are inspired by Chagall’s famed painting ‘Lovers in Blue Sky’. The contrasting blood red calfskin lining is a house signature, and the top of the shoe’s heel can be popped back as shown to reveal Corthay’s emblematic star logo.
