Rake Commends: The Travel Edit

Harley-Davidson Nightster Special

No motorcycle maker comes as close to evoking the romance of the open road as Harley-Davidson. The Milwaukee brand’s V-twins have been rumbling for well over a century, having been enjoyed by everyone from cross-country travellers to outlaws and even the Terminator. The Nightster Special is one of their latest models, with its new liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975 engine hoping to appeal to a new generation of adventurers.

Globe-Trotter Centenary carry-on

There is no suitcase more elegant than a Globe-Trotter. Each case is made by hand, with the brand’s signature vulcanised fibreboard exteriors, leather wrapped corners, and solid metal hardware. This carry-on has the classic Globe-Trotter look of yesteryear, yet it’s been updated with four wheels and an extendable grab-handle for easy transitions through security.

Dior passport holder

This passport holder has been made from the Dior’s smooth calfskin leather, etched with a recurring diamond print originally designed by Marc Bohan in 1974. Coming with two flat interior compartments, a boarding pass holder and five card slots, it can double as your primary wallet for the trip.

Edward Green Polperro loafers

These Polperro loafers have been specifically designed to travel well, with their featherlight suede and flexible soles able to fold down so they can be packed neatly. Made by hand in England, they are constructed on the brand’s classic slipper last for impressive comfort, and are a natural pairing with chinos or shorts and polo shirts.

Bang & Olufsen H95

Noise-cancelling headphones are about as essential a travel companion as a passport. They help pass the time while blocking out the unwanted thrum of fellow airport dwellers, allowing you to listen to your music or podcasts in peace. B&O’s H95 are among the finest pair around, in both design and sound, with their soft lambskin leather, precision-cut aluminium frame, and powerful 40mm titanium drivers.

Connolly seersucker cropped jacket

Connolly have long perfected the art of tailored casualwear, and this summer jacket is no different. Cut from a breathable, lightweight seersucker cotton, it comes with a comfortable relaxed fit, a drawstring hem and button front, as well as twin chest pockets, which are perfect for storing your sunglasses and passport.

Métier Rider backpack

The beauty of Métier’s designs is in the details. The button snaps featured in their bags are designed to mimic the shutter sound of a vintage Leica camera, while the springs in their locks were carefully engineered over a period of six months to replicate the sound of a Porsche door closing. The brand’s Rider backpack might be the perfect day bag for any excursion, with its soft suede exterior, sleek design and multitude of pockets.

Drake’s travel jacket

Hopsack is a nomad’s friend, with its lightness and crease- resistant properties. The fine folks at Drake’s know this well. This travel jacket from the British brand is cut from a dark-blue weave. Half-canvassed and with soft, unstructured shoulders, it comes with a three-roll-two front and a hidden interior buttoned pocket.

Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT

New for this year, the Black Bay 58 GMT is a watch many have been craving for some time. It houses that now-classic Tudor GMT look, albeit in a smaller, 39mm, case. It is understated and durable, with its black and burgundy bezel and gold accents. And, thanks to its GMT function, it can keep track of two time zones, which is handy when you’re on the move.
