- Product Notes
If these Oliver Goldsmith frames look familiar, that's because they're based on the very pair worn by Michael Caine in his famous David Bailey portrait, cigarette in mouth. Handmade in Italy, these 60s-style eyeglasses are made from lightweight acetate with black tortoise detailing and have photochromic lenses which darken when exposed to sunlight.

The Story
While a tall claim, it's fair to credit Oliver Goldsmith with turning practical eyewear into an expression of style. As one of the first to utilise acetate as a material for glasses, the brand was able to create more complex and exaggerated designs, which, from the 50s, were donned by the likes of Michael Caine, Audrey Hepburn and Peter Sellers, becoming synonymous with fashion and celebrity culture. Although the market for frames-as-accessories is now well saturated, the brand remains a favourite among those who respect its pioneering history and have an appreciation for nostalgia. Now headed by Oliver’s great-granddaughter Claire Goldsmith, the brand draws from its impressive archive, dating from the late 50s through to the 80s, to recreate styles that feel as relevant today as ever.
