The Story
There aren’t many higher endorsements than from a royal, and Savile Row tailor Huntsman has had nods of approval from numerous members of the family. Founded in 1849, Henry Huntsman initially set up shop at 126 New Bond St, which acted as both a bespoke tailor and an equestrian wear workshop. After building up a reputation among those partial to hunting and riding, in 1886 the company earned its first Royal Warrant as Leather Breeches Maker to the Prince of Wales, followed by Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in 1888. While the company's roots are in practical wear, Huntsman earned its placed on Savile Row thanks to the commanding structure of its tailoring: dramatic shoulders, heavy chests and long, flared skirts. As the years went by, the house soon claimed endorsements from screen royalty, too; as a popular destination for the likes of Clark Gable, Rex Harrison, Laurence Olivier, Paul Newman and Gregory Peck. Now firmly sitting at 11 Savile Row, Huntsman boasts the largest in-house cutting team on the street, offering ready-to-wear and made-to-measure services, created entirely in the UK from the finest materials.
