The Story
An ode to the iconic ‘Huntsman cut’ of the 1970s, everything has been pumped-up just a little by Huntsman’s Head Cutter, Campbell Carey, to channel a little bit of the house’s 70s look. Featuring ferocious 4” notch lapels with a functioning throat-tab, a heavily expressed chest, long flared skirt, suppressed waist and oversized pocket-flaps and turn-back cuffs, the coat makes a particularly virile statement for the rakish dresser.
It is cut in an exclusive Islay tweed, woven in the longest standing woollen mill in the Inner Hebrides, which Carey designed to The Rake’s brief, yielding a robust, yet modern tweed cloth designed to feel suitably sexy and urban, appropriate for chic weekends or cocktail parties about town. In a large-format two-tone midnight and RAF blue houndstooth with a subtle dove grey overcheck, the tweed speaks of those clothes as championed by the playboys from the Golden era of rakedom; Gunther Sachs, Agnelli, Paul Newman and Aristotle Onassis.
Technically, the jacket is nothing less than a masterpiece. Constructed in a little-known tailoring workshop in Cheshire, which specializes in producing ready-to-wear garments using traditional bespoke techniques, the coat is fully canvassed, with padded lapels, padded shoulders and roped sleeveheads. A garment designed to empower and ennoble the wearer, we hope that customers will be as enamoured with the jacket as we are.
