The Story
Indigo People was envisaged with the sole purpose of celebrating and maintaining historical and traditional craftsmanship that would otherwise be lost by the introduction of modernised methods. Founded by Kiat Yen and Johan van de Berg in 2013, they endeavoured to combine contemporary designs with authentic techniques using their favourite tool; natural indigo dye. Each product is handmade and collaborated on with weaver communities in Asia, who are masters of the craft and utilise resist-dyeing techniques such as Batik and Itak printing to create the inspired patterns. This technique also renders each and every product completely unique and slight differences will occur with every dye. Investing in an Indigo People accessory will mean you invest the continued support for artisanal craftspeople and their livelihoods.
