Few sweaters have a more rakish feel than this luxurious cashmere-merino blend in heathered grey. Inis Meáin's 'Longford' has a decorative trellis pattern, an all-over cable knit that references a traditional style sported by Irish Aran islanders on special occasions. Named for the north-central Irish county, it is finished with a rolled neck knit in the same chunky rib as the welt and cuffs. This sweater was knit and hand-linked on Inis Meáin, where the craft has been passed from mother to daughter for most of the last century. The wool has merino's natural warmth-trapping, breathable properties and can absorb some thirty per cent of its weight in water without feeling wet.

The old story that sweaters were once used to identify where drowned fishermen were from is a myth but it is true that Aran sweaters originate from the Aran Islands, the second largest of which is Inis Meáin. The stitches were once intimately linked to the lives and clans of those who wore them.
