Navy Renaissance-Print Silk Smoking Hat
$ 155- Product Notes
Smoking hats were developed in the 19th Century to keep men's hair from smelling after they enjoyed a cigar. They're also called lounging hats or thinking caps, should you need two other excuses to pull on this silk New&Lingwood hat. The tassel is true to traditional designs and though the butterflies are printed they are inspired by romantic practice. British women's journals from the 1800s suggest it was common for wives and girlfriends to embroider smoking hats with such patterns as gifts for men to wear in the comfort of their own homes.

The Story
Since 1865, New & Lingwood has made a name for itself as a house that not only knows its way around fine clothes, but one that can inject whimsy with equal flair. Initially founded by Elizabeth New and Samuel Lingwood to provide uniforms for Eton College pupils, the house is now an intrinsic part of Britain's sartorial landscape. New & Lingwood's stores are fittingly located on Jermyn St in London and Eton in Windsor, home to the brand's tailoring, shirting, footwear and accessories - a selection of which is also available on TheRake.com.
