2017 marks the centenary anniversary of Persol, the Italian brand that is synonymous with creating luxury eyewear, mainly by hand from of its original factory in Turin. Undeniably, it is a brand that is instantaneously recognisable the world over, partly due to its iconic and intricate design specifications on the temples known as the The Arrow and The Meflecto, which are the vertical steel pins on the temple’s hinges. The hinges on the temples are a stunning example of Persol’s exceptional levels of design and resultantly has become the brand’s logo of sorts. It completely underpins the brand’s ethos as well as creating a sense of modesty within the aesthetic. Wearing Persol is a sign of acknowledging and understanding pared-down, sophisticated luxury.
Patented by Persol in the late 1930s, the Meflecto system provides comfort and durability for a number of faces, varying in size and shape, by removing the pressure on the head via the glasses’ temples due to the steel pins. In addition to the unsurpassed innovative feature, The Arrow, which was designed by Persol’s founder Giuseppe Ratti, strengthens the frames whilst also acting as a signifier for quality eyewear and a timeless style.
The likes of Cary Grant, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen, are all revered for their stylistic perfection and they all wore Persol, both in and out of character. Persol is inextricably linked with the absolute heights of 20th century style, which we are adamant of celebrating, and its levels of craftsmanship are most deserved of our undying attention and appreciation, and thus comes with our commendation.
