Red Cotton Japan 1932 Authentic Heavyweight Rugby$ 195
- Product Notes
This cherry blossom-embellished jersey is handmade from heavyweight cotton, knit in the traditional 12-gauge style. It has a classic rugby collar, a 3-button placket and ribbed cuffs. While rugby is an old sport in Japan (the nation's first rugby club, Yokohama Football Club, was established in 1866), the first national team was only created in 1930. Their first international match was in Vancouver, but it was on the 31st of January, 1932, that the "Cherry Blossoms" played at home for the first time. In a packed Hanazono Rugby Stadium, in front of some 25,000 triumphant spectators, they won this first home match: 9 to 8, against the Canadians. This design resulted from a collaboration with Sports D'Epoque.
