Chocolate Brown Casentino Ulster Coat

- Product Notes
Cut in authentic Italian Casentino, which thanks to its full-bodied handle is both supremely warming and shower-resistant, the Rubinacci Ulster coat is in many ways the seminal tailored greatcoat. The house was the first Italian tailor to popularize the style in the 1930s and it has remained a signature style for Rubinacci ever since, although these are the first that have ever made ready-to-wear. As such, these coats are made to an entirely new pattern, cut by Mariano Rubinacci himself, and feature a narrow double-breasted wrap, heroic revere collar, box-pleated and half-belted back, turn-back cuffs, patch and flap pockets and a softly tailored, half-lined Neapolitan construction. Each coat is finished in rich tonal satin lining, with horn buttons and an exclusive Rubinacci for The Rake label.

The Story
As a brand that straddles both Italian and British tailoring, it's not surprising that Rubinacci resonates so strongly here at The Rake as well as with the wider luxury menswear community. Founded in Naples, the house's sensibility is true to the eccentric flair the city is renowned for, yet it also draws influence from English tradition, fusing aspects of both worlds to form a brand unique in its approach to cut and style. Gennaro Rubinacci, considered one of the most stylish men in Naples at his prime, started a bespoke business in 1932, dubbing it 'The London House' to draw comparisons to Savile Row. The reins were handed over to son Mariano, who, using the knowledge and skills passed down to him from his father, further cemented the brand within the global luxury menswear vernacular. With four ateliers, in London, Milan, Naples and Tokyo, the house still has a strong bespoke contingent as well as a ready-to-wear offering, filled with sharp suits, louche coats and fanciful scarves and pocket squares. Grandson Luca, arguably one of the most lensed street style characters in his own right, now works with his father on the brand, lending a contemporary eye and voice to the traditions of the tailoring house. Together, the pair bounce ideas, skills and wisdom off each other, resulting in a business unique in style and outlook.
