Rémy Martin's exclusive collaboration with metalwork artist Steaven Richard sees the marrying of traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation.
Since its establishment in 1724, Rémy Martin has famously epitomised quality craftsmanship and exceptional know-how. Today, its world-class cognac is the result of centuries of inspiration and a dedication to innovation: its commitment to honouring its heritage goes hand in hand with a strong pioneering approach that sees it constantly pushing boundaries and experimenting with new technologies.
This philosophy is one also held by Steaven Richard, a Paris-based metalwork craftsman who draws inspiration from the natural world to create exquisite works of art using brass and iron. By bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary digital techniques, Steaven has revolutionised his practice, paving the way for a series of new aesthetic adventures. It was only logical then, for Rémy Martin and Steaven to join forces, working together to craft a limited edition decanter and gift set that showcases the cognac house’s iconic XO. For the collaboration, Steaven redesigned Rémy Martin’s iconic centaur emblem using a technique called anamorphosis, which results in a unique trompe l’oeil effect, giving the decanter new reflections and a new texture.
“I took inspiration from Rémy Martin’s centuries-old connection with the soil – its love for nature – and something happened,” says Steaven “Something approaching a revelation: from the verticality of the vines that climb to the sky, this piece reaches out towards the stars.”
