Gallow Green at the McKittrick
New York’s McKittrick Hotel is home to experiential theatre company Punchdrunk’s ongoing megahit Sleep No More
, an immersive reimagining of Macbeth which premiered at the hotel in March 2011 and is currently scheduled to close absolutely never. It is also, happily, home to the Gallow Green bar and restaurant, set within an unexpectedly lush rooftop garden. “Gallow Green is intended to be a transportive garden oasis in the middle of New York City,” says Cesar Hawas, The McKittrick Hotel’s Special Envoy. “The visual vibe of Gallow Green is inspired by the countryside train stations of Scotland – we pulled direct references from our downstairs neighbour, Sleep No More
, to inform the detail and whimsy of our rooftop garden.” Birnam Wood’s famously whimsical vibe aside, Gallow Green offers enviable views of the city. “We are lucky to be surrounded by relatively short buildings and because of that can see the sunset over the Hudson River, the Empire State building as well as the new glass mountain range at Hudson Yards,” says Hawas. Theatregoers and pure straightforward summer drinkers alike would do well to seek out a comfortable alcove and order a cocktail. Dress code:
