The Rake Sale: G. Inglese Edit

Born in Ginosa, a small provincial town in the region of Puglia, Angelo Inglese can still memorialize the scent of the iron’s steam when touching the cloths in his family’s tailor’s shop as a boy. His father Gianni established the house of G. Inglese in 1955. Italian provenance is at the very core of G. Inglese’s identity – and along with the rustic beauty of Puglia, their designs continue to imbue the cultural expressions of Ginosa and Italy on the whole. Angelo took over the firm at the tender age of 23. Early on his tenure he bought a historic building in the old town centre of Ginosa, where skilled custodians (many of whom worked for Angelo’s father) use ancient shirtmaking techniques which very much align with the building’s history. He punctiliously checks every garment to leave the atelier, ensuring each product does his father’s name proud. It is, therefore, a very rare occasion to be able to purchase a G. Inglese garment at the prices currently available as part of The Rake Sale. So to help get you started, we’ve highlighted a few key pieces that you should definitely pick up, before they go. Summer tailoring is an important focal point this year, as we’re finally able to travel and dress up, all the while embracing the wonderful weather. A favourite for the season, seersucker is a light and breathable fabric that looks good when constructed well. Whilst certainly bold, the double-breasted white seersucker jacket is brilliant when combined with a linen shirt and separates in warm tonal colours of brown and beige. Left unlined for a slightly unstructured feel, G. Inglese has crafted an ecru double-breasted jacket with the same ease of movement as its signature shirting. Made from cotton, linen and silk-blend hopsack in the label’s native Puglia, it has flattering high peak lapels to balance the clean-lined shoulders and trim profile. Thoughtfully, it comes ready styled with a lapel pin and pocket square for a dapper finish. Speaking of shirting, every rakish man and woman should own at least one G. Inglese shirt. Whilst the classic block colour cotton shirt is a great piece for the day to day, one of the shirts that has really caught our eye this season is the yellow and white striped linen capri polo. Is there anything more perfect for the warmer months? If you are looking for a more classic silhouette whilst retaining a touch of flair, however, the brown, light blue and beige cotton shirt is great when combined with classic white trousers and tonal loafers. Finally, a close cousin to the shirt, the overshirt is a steady item to have as part of your arsenal.
