Ralph Lauren Dubai Limited Edition RL867 is rooted in the elegant simplicity of classical watchmaking. But
with closer inspection, it is a marriage of textures; framed by a steel hobnailbezel that surrounds an elegant ivory guilloché dial. Bold Roman characters also contrast with the
Arabic-Hindu numerals. All of these details are housed in a sophisticated 35mm case which sits flush and comfortable
on the wrist. It looks handsome thanks in part to the hand-stitched interchangeable black strap. Made with supple
alligator leather—considered the superior choice for leather goods—it is comfortable and has a natural shine.
Distinguishing the exclusive collaboration between The Rake and Ralph Lauren, the sapphire crystal caseback presents
a limited-edition emblem that reads: “The Rake – Dubai Edition – 1 of 20” signifying that the owner is a member of a
small and elite group of connoisseurs, who can marvel at the craftsmanship and engineering of their
watch.
As one would expect, the movement has the same attention to craft as the outer-build.
The 867 (named after Ralph Lauren’s 867 Madison Avenue flagship store) uses a Swiss mechanical self-winding RL300-1
calibre movement. Observed through the open-back sapphire crystal underside of the watch, one’s eyes can trace the
hand-finished Côte de Genève, as well as the circular perlage graining. This is evidence that although each of these
twenty pieces are dreamed-up in New York City—and inspired by the Dubai lifestyle—it does not compromise on the
craftsmanship of Swiss haute horology.
