Every Christmas at The Rake, we recommend the products we'll be adding to our own Christmas lists and buying for friends and families. Money can't buy love, but it can buy the look on your loved ones faces when they open something special, and it can certainly buy the feeling of satisfaction you get from a little self-gifting on the side. Scroll down for the greatest gifts of 2020.

Leather accessories are not just for Christmas – they last a lifetime, and look good doing it. From tote bags to croc-skin belts, they're fine examples of craftsmanship and perfect stocking fillers.

Take inspiration from previous Rake cover star Stanley Tucci, who entertained the masses with his cocktail mixing videos throughout lockdown. Our personal preference is the Negroni, which is why we've got a collection of accessories for the Italian aperitif lover.

Globetrotters feeling a little trapped by the events of 2020 can feed their wanderlust with trinkets that they can treasure no matter where they are in the world (and that are far more chic than a fridge magnet).

The Rake is honoured to remain at our readers' service, particularly after a year that has pushed everyone to their limits. We're nothing without our loyal readers, and they're loyal because we are proud to publish high-quality stories, exclusive content, high-octane histories and insightful interviews – which makes a subscription to our bimonthly magazine one of the smartest gifts you can buy.

Landed the office petrol head for secret Santa? Assouline's quilted coffee table book, Bentley: The Impossible Collection of 100 at 100 celebrates a century of the sport and The Mechanist's Fuchs wheel bracelet will rev the engine of any motoring enthusiast. Feeling extra generous? Check out our leather jackets and teddy coats, too.

If you've got family members retreating to the country for winter, they'll need to be equipped with the essentials too, such as Laird Hatters' Shelby caps, a cosy cashmere beanie or a sporty corduroy baseball cap.

We've all got a friend who has taken 'lockdown locks' a little too far – so here's a gentle reminder that whilst they might not be able to visit their barber, they can take care of themselves using barber-approved products such as Pankhurst's four-part set, Saunders & Long's all-in-one or Floris' collection of eau de parfums.

Are masks the new socks? No one really wants to add them to their Christmas list – but we're all secretly pleased when we get a fresh batch. Covid-19 may be around a while, but so will these beautifully-made masks, which aren't just cut in fine fabrics like New & Lingwood's signature peacock print, but also include functional details such as adjustable straps and protective Polypropylene layers.

Excuses to dress up this year have been few and far between, so we'll be making the most of Christmas and all the festivities that surround it. Drop the hint to your loved ones that they're expected to do the same by wrapping up a tie or rakish pocket square – both of which require a shirt and a jacket to wear straight away.

Give someone the gift of escapism by cutting through the cold and dark of December with some summery accessories they can save up for the next couple of seasons, plus a little superstitious luck in the form of an evil eye talisman.

More than just books, these are tomes of time travel, motoring, photography, culture and history. From a deep dive into the Daytona Perpetual to a meticulously researched history of Audemars Piguet, any wristwatch collector will want these stacked on his or her coffee table.

A celebratory cigar is a Christmas tradition in many a Rake household, so make sure you're able to do it in style with a silken smoking cap, a lavish alternative and a great excuse to forego the paper party hats that come in crackers.

Whether your loved ones are more likely to crack open a bottle of vintage Cuvée or toast with a limited edition whisky, if ever a year has called for a strong drink to celebrate its end – and 2021's new beginning – it's this one. These gifts make sure your loved ones are prepared to see it off properly.
