The Story
There’s no more apt location for a luxury swimwear company to be founded than Saint-Tropez, which is precisely where Vilebrequin’s story starts. Wanting an alternative to the very small and very tight swimwear prevalent at the time, founder Fred Prysquel launched a brand in 1971 selling boxer-style swim shorts inspired by those he had seen men wearing in California. The quick-dry material is also still patterned with loud, retro-style prints to ensure the discerning wearer doesn’t go unnoticed on the beach.
