The story of Zegna started in 1910 when Ermenegildo Zegna, aged 18, founded the Lanificio Zegna wool mill, which later was to become one of Italy's most well-known dynamic family businesses. Zegna had a dream to make the most beautiful fabrics in the world, a goal he believed possible if he fully invested in his local community, environment and workforce. During his career, Zegna not only conserved an oasis of protected Italian landscape, and built a 14km road connecting the local towns, but also created local leisure, medical and educational services for the community. His responsibility towards building harmonious relationships between himself, his workers and the environment, and his awareness that natural resources must be protected, allowed his label to produce products of a supreme quality, both in their natural materials and in the skill of the production. The company continues to be family-run, with its headquarters based in Milan, and its philosophy of working to long-term objectives, remaining family-led and following a strong ethical commitment ensures that the label stays true to the founder's vision and continues to deliver garments of superior quality.
