A Bright Idea: The New Breitling Six Nations Chronomat Watch Collection
Breitling’s partnership with international rugby continues ahead of the 6 Nations with the release of a new collection of watches dedicated to the participating countries.

When news came in 2022 of Breitling becoming the official time partner of the 6 Nations, by a long way the best annual sporting event in the world, it made almost ostentatious amounts of sense. The Twickenham set are a tremendous demographic, and Breitling showed their good sense and strategic nous when while other brands seemed content with bit-parts in other sports, rugby went largely untouched. Which seems ludicrous as, taking Twickenham as an example (I refuse to call it the Allianz Stadium), there are 82,000 people spending around £300 per ticket to be there. It should be a no-brainer.
The action-man side to Breitling which has been well contextualised in the world of aviation and exploration with a slight vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll edge to it, plays all the right chords, especially for those who feel more comfortable in a heavier set watch. Furthermore, the origins of both are just a year apart, 1883 for the six nations when it was originally just the four home nations, and 1884 was when Breitling was founded.

Well, this is now their fourth season with the competition and they have celebrated the return with a collection of watches which celebrates not just the England crowd, but every nation.
The Chronomat Six Nations Limited Edition (coincidentally launched in the centenary year of the 6 Nations) comes in two sizes for men (40mm) and women (32mm), with each dial coloured in one of the six competitors. Now, this is admittedly a bit complex in that there are three nations where blue is the primary colour, but Breitling have made sure each watch’s identity is unimpeachable with the crest engraved onto the case back. The brand's CEO, the great George Kern says, “You can feel the energy of rugby’s greatest championship, and all six unions in these limited editions, created by Breitling for this partnership. We are proud to be the official timekeeper of Six Nations Rugby, supporting both men’s and women’s rugby, and celebrate the bold spirit of a sport that resonates with Breitling’s sense of purpose.”
The dial continues to turn for this brand’s journey in rugby, time will almost certainly tell that this venture has benefits for both the sport and the brand, a truly mutual partnership with elegant timepieces to mark the relationship as it takes shape in 2025.
