The Rake x Maison Corthay

Last week, The Rake and Parisian bespoke shoemaker Maison Corthay celebrated the art of handcrafted footwear at the inaugural opening of their newest London boutique. Located at 23 Motcomb Street in the elegant quarter of Belgravia—a district that has a distinctly Parisian character—the new store is now twice the size of the previous location, ideal for perusing master cobbler Pierre Corthay’s selection of French-crafted shoes and his distinct patinas. Devotees of Monsieur Pierre’s work include the Korean superstars BTS, as well as our very own Founder, Wei Koh. Maison Corthay and The Rake are naturally the perfect fit—having also previously collaborated together on a pair of loafers that homage the great artist Marc Chagall. The evening itself made great use of the larger-sized store, with a specially-curated list of guests from across the worlds of fashion and the arts gathering to discover the more recent casual collections—as well as meet with Maison Corthays to learn more about the bespoke process. Guests enjoyed drinks well into the warm July evening, as conversations spilled out into the street and the bright lights of number 23 Motcomb Street were switched off, only to be turned back on again the following day, when London’s well-heeled would awake to one of the finest shoemaker’s alive in their very own city.
