Tarantino's Style Icons

With the release of Tarantino's latest film, we take a quick dive into the style icons of his cinematic oeuvre to discover what makes them so damn cool.
Tarantino's Style Icons
Riotously violent, darkly subversive and enduringly quotable, each of Quentin Tarantino's beloved films have rightly gained cult status over the years. It helps that they ooze style: from lurid Hawaiian shirts to solemn monochrome suiting, the various looks sported by Tarantino's best-known characters have become engrained in our collective sartorial consciousness and continue to influence our wardrobe choices. Here, we reinterpret five of the most iconic looks from the filmmaker's impressive back catalogue, with a carefully curated selection of new season clothing and accessories that you can shop now on TheRake.com.

Django, Django Unchained

Django Unchained's ultra-suave protagonist was certainly onto something with his killer cowboy ensemble. Richly textured fabrics and deep autumnal colours are key here: in the cooler months, one can never go wrong with the fail-safe staples of brown boots and suede field jacket. Finalise your outfit with a felt fedora and leather driving gloves for a truly Django-approved look. Forest green suede field jacket, Isaia; Granite beaver felt bash fedora, Nick Fouquet; Brown leather driving gloves, Omega; Brown leather Cash boots, Barbanera (sold out).

Butch Coolidge, Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction may have been released 25 years ago, but its styling is just as relevant today. Of all the noteworthy looks (and the film is teeming with them), we can't help returning to that sported by the aptly-named Butch Coolidge. White tee, blue jeans: it doesn't get more timeless than that. Rust denim jacket, Doppiaa; White T-Shirt, Sunspel; Stonewashed tapered selvedge jeans, C.O.F Studios; Brown suede brady hiker boots, Grenson.

Seth Gecko, From Dusk Till Dawn

Whilst we certainly don't advocate taking tattoo inspiration from George Clooney's character in From Dusk Till Dawn, we can advise emulating the rest of his style. Keep it simple yet elegant with the ever-versatile combination of navy blazer and plain white tee. A pair of dark sneakers adds a casual touch, bringing you effortlessly from boardroom to bar. So cool, it's criminal... Navy wool formal techmerino jacket, Z Zegna; White cotton T-Shirt, Sunspel; Oceanic blue suede margom sole sneakers, North 89.

Clarence, True Romance

An Elvis Presley mega-fan, True Romance's Clarence offered his own kitschy take on the King's iconic '50s style. Bring the look into 2019 with a timeless black leather jacket layered over a luxurious wool cardigan and paired with vegan leather sneakers. Throw on a pair of aviator sunglasses for true rock 'n' roll appeal. Black leather jacket, Schott; Burgundy shawl collar lambswool cardigan. Anderson & Sheppard; White vegan leather sneakers, Yatay.

Mr Blonde, Reservoir Dogs

The black suit is a recurring costume staple throughout Tarantino's films, but no character pulls it off better than Mr Blonde in  Reservoir Dogs. As Tarantino himself put it, "You can't put a guy in a black suit without making him look a little cooler than he already looks”. Skinny black tie, dark sunglasses and cigarette dangling from mouth complete the iconic look. White tab collar cotton shirt, Edward Sexton; Black silk knitted tie, Drakes; Silver chrome metal traditional safety razor, Muhle; Black squared sunglasses, Pascal Mathieu; Black and white spot cotton sock, The London Sock Co.
