“We feel that the world is now more than ever in need of symbols that represent kindness, warmth, and a child-like sense of joy” writes The Rake founder Wei Koh. “For us, the Polo Bear has never been more relevant. Because it was created by a man I consider not only to be the world’s greatest designer but also one of its best human beings. The roots of the Polo Bear go back to the late ‘80s when his team presented Lauren and his brother Jerry with Steiff Teddy Bears modelled on them and dressed in outfits made by the Ralph Lauren factories that created their menswear. Lauren was so charmed by these bears that he decided to offer them in a limited series of 200 in 1991. The Polo bear became one of Ralph Lauren’s most popular symbols and a series of highly collectable sweaters. He was temporarily discontinued in 2001 when the partnership with Steiff ended, causing a surge in aftermarket pricing on the sweaters. By 2013 the demand for all things Polo Bear inspired his return where he remains more popular than ever. Indeed, the Polo Bear collaboration with brands such as PALACE have become some of the most sought after and desirable objects around - now commanding a premium of $1,000 over its original retail price. In November of 2019, the Polo Bear made his first appearance on the dials of three highly charming sold-out watches. Since the launch of the Polo Bear watch, I’ve secretly harboured a dream of a Rake Polo Bear timepiece. Finally summoning the courage to request this, I was overjoyed to learn that Mr Lauren had given his personal assent. Throughout 2020 for The Rake community, the negroni has in fact become a symbol of resistance: its distinct orange hue burning bright against the darkness. And so without hesitation, we requested that the Polo Bear enjoy this libation, as he too, would be standing strong against 2020”.

The Rake is proud to introduce a limited edition Negroni version of the iconic Ralph Lauren Polo Bear Watch. The watch is inspired by the favourite drink of The Rake’s founder, Wei Koh, and reinterprets this iconic motif to show the Tuxedo Bear holding a negroni. The watch is a 42mm edition, made in Switzerland. It is limited to 200 pieces.
