LORENZO CIFONELLI FOR THE RAKE LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION: second drop

In view of last month’s collaboration between Lorenzo Cifonelli and The Rake proving so popular, we’re happy to reveal a second drop featuring six new Lorenzo-designed looks, that perpetuate the Riviera charm at groundbreaking value.
LORENZO CIFONELLI FOR THE RAKE LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION: second drop
If you’re an iconic Parisian tailoring house, with an extraordinary bespoke reputation that stretches as far back as 1880 - one might wonder why they would want to produce a prêt-à-porter collection where no jacket is priced above $USD 1,000. Cifonelli believe that by cultivating a more accessible line that retains their signature qualities, it can be the spark for a younger gentleman to start a long relationship with the brand. After the success of the first launch and to maintain a reachable value for our community Lorenzo has designed each garment himself. To put this revolutionary concept into perspective – a Cifonelli-designed jacket under $USD 1,000, is eight times cheaper than a bespoke jacket and one third of the price of the brand’s ready-to-wear versions. Lorenzo Cifonelli has been reflecting over the lack of accessibility to the upper echelons of menswear for a few years now. He said: “I recognise today that tailoring is in a fight for its survival. In order to survive, in order to ensure the future of our craft and our culture, we must engage the new generation of customers.” After a call with The Rake’s Founder, Wei Koh, they hatched a plan for The Rake and Cifonelli to come together to produce a signature Cifonelli range, that is offered at groundbreaking value. The result was the Lorenzo Cifonelli for The Rake limited edition collection, which due to popular demand has returned with a second drop featuring six incredible new looks. The buying window for this Made-To-Order collection is open from now until Wednesday 12th May 2021. The garments and accessories will be dispatched in 7-8 weeks. For customers that ordered garments from the first drop, please note that production has already begun and orders will be arriving in accordance to initial schedule.
Cifonelli knew that the project would not be possible without a great cloth mill to support it. When thinking about whom to approach, he decided to start at the top. Loro Piana immediately understood his idea. Cifonelli says: “I explained that we are in a kind of war for the hearts and minds of the next generation, and that I knew that if we were able to provide them with the first taste of true elegance, they would become devoted to this style for the rest of their lives, because it is something you grow older with — which is not the same for streetwear or ‘fast fashion’. I explained that Gen Z cares about ethics, and that to show them that garments can last for ever is something I know they will love.” To his amazement Loro Piana said: “Lorenzo, we love this project, we believe in you, we believe in The Rake — we are going to supply our cloth at incredible value so that you can hit your price target’”. After the success of the first drop, we are extremely excited that most of the new assortment is cut in the coveted Loro Piana cloth.
Green cotton safari sport Teba jacket and trousers
In keeping with the first wave of the collection, the second is also inspired by Lorenzo’s time on the Amalfi Coast and the French Riviera. Lorenzo says: “I wanted to create the perfect collection of clothing that can mix and match and be worn to create the perfect tropical chic style for when I can travel again”. Among their new creations is a charming grey wool Prince of Wales check double-breasted 6x1 suit. The burgundy check lines blend in beautifully with the suit’s light grey shade for that classic and understated appearance, which I’m sure Cary Grant would’ve been proud to wear; he's one of Cifonelli's inspirations, after all. Featuring the famous Cifonelli shoulder, which angles so that there is more cloth over the shoulder blade to constitute a sleeker chest. Wear with the brand’s midnight blue pinstriped classic shirt, and midnight blue silk floppy disks printed tie for a sophisticated appearance.
In true Riviera style the light blue sport jacket is made from a lightweight wool, and is the perfect jacket to wear as a separate with white trousers. It has also been purposefully designed so that it harmoniously combines with the brand’s white wool double-breasted waistcoat. By having this waistcoat in your armoury to wear with this jacket – at the flick of a switch you’re able to transform your outfit from casual to formal. Elsewhere, the black cotton sport jacket is an incredible piece of tailoring. It is rare to see a modern sport jacket of this ilk in noir, and with it being a one-button jacket with pleated patch pockets, the latter being a style that is an iconic couture look named ‘Porto Sole’, it is certainly cut for supreme elegance. It is also the extension of their accomplished informal apparel, that really stands out. Their green cotton safari sport Teba jacket and white and blue pinstriped single-breasted Teba jacket have been designed in accordance with Cifonelli bespoke with beautiful and intricate details – and like a lot of the pieces in the collection, they are extremely adaptable, and have the ability to perform in most settings. The buying window for this Made-To-Order collection is open from now until Wednesday 12th May 2021. The garments and accessories will be dispatched in 7-8 weeks. For customers that ordered garments from the first drop, please note that production has already begun and orders will be arriving in accordance to initial schedule.
