The Rake heads backstage at the Oliver Spencer AW16 show.
When Rock Rolled With Afrobeat | Oliver Spencer
Walking into a small wine bar hidden just behind the BFC showspace after the show, I bumped into Ollie (Spencer) with a handful of his team and friends celebrating over a pint of Guiness. He mentions he didn't go off tangent for AW16 which is unusual for him, but it's something he is happy to do once in a while. This is evident throughout the show, a clear reference to North Africa. His distinguishable relaxed tailoring (which is all made in Britain) has been gently mixed in with cool striped knits in a palette of brown, midnight blue and forest green through to blood red and saffron. Inspired by the travels of Ginger Baker from London to Africa where he was immersed into the world of Afrobeat, collaborating with African musician Fela Kuti. The oversized checks mixed with potato prints and Moroccan stripes are a clear collaboration Oliver is referencing.
